Indy Lawyers for Black Lives was founded in June 2020 in response to the unconscionable murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others. As protests and demonstrations brought renewed attention to our country’s collective legacy of unjust systems and racial violence, we felt called to raise our voices in solidarity with our Black family members, friends, colleagues, and community. Hundreds participated in A Call to Action and pledged their commitment to continue working toward social justice and equity.
We humbly acknowledge that we do not have all the answers, and we have far more to learn than to teach.
We seek to amplify those who are navigating this space in an intentional, principled, and enlightened way. This includes the speakers who shared their wisdom at A Call to Action, the grass roots groups mobilizing within our community, and established institutions committed to self-examination, education, and action.
We are committed to serving as a catalyst for change within our circles of influence, amplifying the important work of others, and giving voice to our obligation to serve the cause of the oppressed.
We are Indy Lawyers for Black Lives.
